OSINT Essentials was created by Eoghan Sweeney, an open-source investigation specialist and trainer who has helped establish and develop online verification operations at media worldwide.
The aim of OSINT Essentials is to provide resources and expertise for open-source investigations and media literacy. This complements work in designing, creating and delivering materials and workshops and talks that have (so far) taken place in 27 countries.
A decade of specialisation in digital verification and fact-checking began at news agency Storyful, where he was instrumental in developing the techniques and workflows that transformed it from a small start-up to a recognised global industry leader and innovator.
Appointed Global Training Director at not-for-profit organisation First Draft in 2018, he led programmes such as the establishment of the Google News Initiative’s countrywide training network in India, the creation of groundbreaking Indonesian project Cekfakta, and the training of journalists from across Germany to fight disinformation ahead of the federal elections.
Combining this area of specialisation with a journalism career encompassing print, broadcast and online media since 1999 has been key to providing clients and partners with relevant and effective expertise.
Now an independent consultant, he continues to develop and update training materials and practices to reflect the rapidly changing world of digital media and information.
See here for an overview of topics and areas, and don't hesitate to get in touch, whether for training, collaboration or comment.
